Tyres and balancing
Tyres off and back on, new rubber fitted, seasonal changeovers and balancing so the wheel runs calm on the road.

Tyres and wheels are done together anyway
Every wheel repair begins by taking the tyre off and ends with fitting it again and balancing. That is why the tyre side of the work is running constantly here, both for repairs and for ordinary seasonal changeovers that have nothing to do with damage.
Balancing is the last step and it decides how the car behaves. The machine shows where there is too much mass and where too little, the weight goes exactly on that spot and the measurement is repeated. The result is a steering wheel that sits still and a tyre that wears evenly.
During fitting we also look at what is usually overlooked: the state of the bead seat, the position of the valve and the way the tyre beds down. If the rim has corrosion or a dent there, the wheel will lose air no matter how new and expensive the tyre is.

What gets done on tyres
Standard tyre work, carried out in the same workshop where the wheels themselves are repaired.
Removal and fitting
The tyre comes off and goes back on with the machine, carefully over the rim edge. Freshly painted and polished wheels get extra care so the edge stays untouched.
New tyres
A new tyre is fitted, inflated and seated so it beds down right round on both sides. Balancing the finished assembly always follows straight after.
Seasonal changeover
Switching to the summer or the winter set, with a look at the bead seat and the condition of the tyre before the wheel goes back on the car.
Wheel balancing
The assembly spins on the machine until the uneven mass is found, then a weight is set. That removes the vibration that comes from the wheel itself.
How the tyre work runs
Four steps that are gone through both for a plain seasonal changeover and after every single wheel repair.
Wheel off the car
The wheel is taken off the car, or you bring it already removed. Either way is fine, the time is simply arranged by phone in advance.
Tyre removal
The tyre is broken off the rim on the machine and the old weights are taken away. That is the first look at the true state of the inner face.
Fitting and inflating
The tyre goes back on, or a new one is drawn over, then it is inflated until it seats on the bead all the way round, outside and inside.
Balancing and check
The assembly goes on the balancing machine, the weight is placed where the reading asks for it, and the measurement is repeated until the result is clean.
Why a wheel still shakes after balancing
When a vibration remains although the wheel has just been balanced, the cause is usually not mass but shape. A bent rim, a tyre with a damaged sidewall or one worn unevenly produce unrest that no weight can cancel, however many times the measurement is repeated.
So with a stubborn vibration the rim is checked on the spinner first and the tyre inspected off the wheel. If the rim runs out it goes for straightening and the assembly is balanced again. That treats the cause rather than the symptom, and the shaking does not return after a few drives.
Questions about tyres and balancing
Do you balance the wheel after a repair?
Yes, that is the last step before handover. The tyre goes back on the rim, the assembly is put on the machine and the weight is set where the reading shows. Without it there would be no way of knowing whether the repair really cured the unrest you felt in the steering.
Can I bring only the wheels without the car?
You can. Take the wheels off yourself and bring them, or drive in and have them removed here. In both cases it is worth announcing your visit on +387 61 570 429, so a time can be agreed and you do not have to wait in a queue.
Will you fit tyres I bought somewhere else?
Tyres you bring yourself are fitted too. Before fitting, the condition of the tyre and of the rim is checked, and afterwards the assembly is balanced like any other. If a tyre has a damaged sidewall, you are told before it goes onto the rim.
When is the right time for the seasonal changeover?
The change is made when autumn temperatures drop for good, and in spring when they settle above that again. Slots fill up quickly in winter, so it pays to get in touch early and fix a day. Wheels are balanced during the changeover where that is needed.
Do you remove the old weights before rebalancing?
Always. The old weights come off so the machine reads the real state of the assembly and not the sum of old and new. After that only what the measurement calls for is fitted, and exactly at the point on the rim where it belongs.
Do you take care with painted and polished wheels?
Particular care, because the edge is the most delicate part. The tyre is led over the rim gradually and with protection, so fresh colour and a polished lip come through without marks. That is one reason repair and fitting happen in the same place.
When the tyre is not the only problem
If the unrest is still there after balancing, the next things to look at are the shape of the rim and the bead seat the tyre sits on.
Welding and crack repair
Cracks, breaks, holes in the bead seat and missing chunks of metal. The area is welded through its full thickness and machined back to the wheel's original line.

A wheel that hops, shakes the steering or has gone oval after a pothole is pressed back into a true circle in small stages, with the metal checked as it goes.
More on thisCNC refinishing and lip polishing
Taking a thin layer off on the lathe restores an even circle and a flat bead seat, while polishing gives the outer lip the shine of bare metal.
More on thisPreparation and wheel painting
Old lacquer and corrosion come off down to sound metal, then primer and topcoat go on in a colour agreed before any work starts.

Rusty calipers are cleaned back to metal and coated in heat-resistant paint, so the gap between the spokes shows a tidy detail instead of corrosion.
